    Description

    Neat old non-regal half penny - this is an evasive issue with a nonsense legend on the obverse.  However the reverse has a more standard design - though of a non regal style. This coin is dated 1771 but depicts the bust of King George II who was long dead at this time - the correct bust for this year would be that of King George IIII.  This may have been another way for the illegal mint that prodced this coin to "evade" the counterfeiting laws.
    I think it is the Atkins 181variety - please review the photos and make your own determination.
